12th Annual Nativity Celebration

As a gift to the community, First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort will present the weekend-long 12th Annual Nativity Display Celebration on December 1-3, featuring more than 125 different nativity scenes from around the world. More than 600 people are expected at this year’s event and all are welcome.

“This event has become such a beautiful Advent tradition,” said Donna Sheetz, coordinator of First Presbyterian’s Volunteer Nativity Event. “People from all over the community lend their scenes and this year’s display will feature past favorites as well as many nativities that have never been seen before.”

Each year, new nativities are added and favorites are brought back. Some are simple and some are ornate, but they all tell the same story of Jesus’ birth while showcasing the rich culture from where it was made. Whether they are made of precious wood, local shells, fine ceramics, or recycled soda cans – these worldly nativities are beautifully displayed and each unique.

“This event is the perfect way to slow down and start the season of Advent,” said Sheetz. “It is a joy to greet people who have made a tradition out of coming year after year with their spouse, friends, or grandchildren – as well as welcome those who are new to this display.”

Like other pieces of art, many collectors have a story to share. Some nativity collectors have grand stories of travel, gifts, or inheritance, while others found their treasures at a local thrift store. Visitors will enjoy reading these stories as they float through this vast display.

The Nativity Celebration will be located in historic downtown Beaufort in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall located at 1201 North Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. This event is free to the public and handicap accessible. The display will be open Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 3 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. All ages are welcome. www.firstpresbeaufort.org
