HELP of Beaufort

Fundraising Begins for New Building

HELP of Beaufort has served the Beaufort County area for the past 48 years. They provide assistance for community neighbors that have found themselves needing a bit of help. They deliver meals and pantry goods with a friendly face to seniors and homebound clients through their Mobile Meals and Mobile Pantry services, along with their on-site location at 1810 Ribaut Road in Port Royal. The HELP of Beaufort volunteers dedicate their time and resources to help ensure the community is well cared for.

HELP of Beaufort started a building campaign early in 2021 and has finally, after many years of serving the area, made a commitment to the community, secured a piece of land, and have started the process of building a permanent home. Help of Beaufort’s Executive Director Lori Opozda remarks, “We would like to thank all who have donated their time and funds to get us almost halfway to this goal. There is still a ways to go, and now is the time for the Beaufort Community to rise to the challenge!” Gasque & Associates, Inc. donated the property surveying, preliminary architectural work has been donated by Twingi Productions, and they are working with Brunson Construction on building the project.

The new facility will consist of more floor space in the pantry and clothing areas, and large storage space for receiving and sorting donated food and clothing. It will also feature a 220-square-foot produce garden, the first in the area for a nonprofit! “This way, we ourselves will be self-sustaining in supplying our clients with fresh produce year-round. We will also be able to have classes for our clients with USDA to help them learn how to garden, inside and outside of their homes, and to make it affordable while providing them with education,” explains Lori.

Doing more fundraising is a MUST this year! HELP of Beaufort is looking forward to Smoked Hams for Easter, a 5K Firecracker Walk/Run with Habitat for Humanity on the 4th of July, a springtime Nationwide Pet Photo Contest, and a Buy-A-Board event once the building starts. They are also doing a Brick Campaign with our Pathway-to-HELP entrance to the new building.
