Beaufort’s Fall Art Walk is Back!

October 22, 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Beaufort has a thriving art community. Just walk anywhere downtown, and you will see many galleries displaying beautiful works made by the hands of talented local artists. The Lowcountry Art Celebration, Beaufort’s Fall ArtWalk, was missed last year but is back and will return in full swing on Friday, October 22, from 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. The 17th Annual Celebration and Art Walk features 13 galleries and shops downtown, including The Charles Street Gallery (914 Charles), Basecamp Gallery (500 Carteret), and USCB Center for the Arts (801 Carteret). All participating galleries will be displaying an ArtWalk flag, so they will be easy to find.

Collectively representing over 400 artists, the Art Walk will showcase Lowcountry talent in various media: oil, acrylic, watercolor, multimedia, fiber, glass, jewelry, pottery, and more. Beginning in May, representatives from the galleries start to meet. Brenda Litchfield, director of the Fall Art Walk, coordinates everything with the galleries and artists to put together a fun evening for the community. “It is truly a group effort to create advertising, the budget, and demonstrations, along with communicating with individual galleries and the city,” says Brenda.

A new addition this year will be artist demonstrations at four locations. These will be scheduled on the hour and will last for about 20 minutes. There will be an opportunity to talk with artists and find out how they do what they do. If you have ever had questions about techniques or processes, this is the time to observe and ask.

The lineup of demonstrations has something for everyone! Start at The Charles Street Gallery at 5:00 p.m. Georgia Phillips will share her wealth of knowledge about how to select the perfect frame and mat for your original artwork. She is sure to provide excellent information for artists and collectors, and those who would like to improve their Art look.

At 6:00 p.m., head over to see Lindsey Eavenson, owner of Coastal Art Supply. She will show off pumpkin decorating for children just in time for Halloween. There will be 40 pumpkins ready for the creative young artists who visit. Lindsey will guide the children with design techniques to create their own orange masterpiece to take home.

A must-see at 7:00 p.m., Thibault Gallery will present a glass demonstration by artist Greg Rawls who will pull glass through a kiln and form glass rods to create glass bowls and plates. This unique technique is exciting and fun to watch.

The final demonstration will be held at 8:00 p.m. at the Beaufort Art Association. Local artist James Powley will paint with watercolors, and give tips and tricks to achieve the perfect watercolor look.

Another fun addition this year is two fabulous door prizes. One winner will receive a night at the Cuthbert House Inn Bed and Breakfast, and dinner for two at Saltus. Another lucky winner will receive dinner for two at Breakwater. The Art Walk sends a huge thanks to these two fine restaurants for their donations. Look for entry forms at every gallery to increase the chances of winning these desirable prizes. The more galleries you visit, the better your chances of winning!

Save the date for the Spring Lowcountry Art Celebration on Saturday, April 30, 2022, which may include a kickoff cocktail party and art auction. Their goal for the spring celebration is to elevate the Art Walk to showcase Beaufort and its vibrant art community even more.

Most of the galleries will be serving wine and hors d’oeuvres, and providing a relaxing evening to visit the galleries downtown. Visitors can gaze at the displayed Art and mingle with others who appreciate the impressive talent we have in our community.

Mark your calendars for October 22 to join the local art community in reviving the Lowcountry Art Celebration – Fall ArtWalk. The exceptional talent in this city has made Beaufort one of the top 15 art towns in the US, with hundreds of local artists adding to this distinction.
