Advancements in the dental arts have come a long way in providing top-notch, quality care of one’s oral health. Couple this advanced knowledge with personalized, compassionate dentistry and you have Dr. Louis Costa and his team at Beaufort Center for Dentistry.

Gone are the days when the dentist is feared, and your oral health and overall well-being are ignored. Instead, Dr. Costa encourages patients to minimize oral health problems through preventative measures and regular dental visits.

“It’s about taking the time necessary to understand our patients, listening to their concerns or possible fears, and building relationships of trust in diagnosing and treating their oral health,” Dr. Costa explains. “We’d like to dispel the stigma that a dentist is only a place where you go to experience pain or if you’re in pain. In fact, dental treatment should never be painful. We have many ways to make our patients comfortable and want to partner with them in establishing strong oral and overall health habits.”

Born and raised in Charleston, SC, Dr. Costa completed his undergraduate education at The Citadel and graduated with his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2012. Since then, he has practiced general and cosmetic dentistry in Bluffton, Beaufort, and Charleston. “My family and I were excited to return to Beaufort and find a home with Beaufort Center for Dentistry.” An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, Dr. Costa admits to loving the “Lowcountry life” and living along the coast. “We love the charm of Beaufort and are dedicated to serving the community through personalized dental care.”

Committed to quality care and precision in each dental procedure, Dr. Costa has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education. He is a member of the prestigious Dawson Academy, recognized for its pioneering curriculum in clinical practices and dental techniques. In addition, he has trained with experts in laser dentistry and periodontal therapy, bringing his patients the best in dental technology. He is also a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the South Carolina Dental Association, and serves as a mentor with the Academy of General Dentistry.

“We take time with each patient. The time I take allows me to be hyperfocused on the details of each procedure to ensure the best outcome,” he says, adding that his practice stands behind its work with a guarantee. “Patient experience and patient satisfaction are embedded in all that we do.”

But beyond procedural treatment and knowledge, Dr. Costa’s goal is to help educate his patients on the strong connection between overall health and oral health. “What people often forget is that their oral health impacts more than just bad breath, cavities, and gum disease,” he adds. “Whether it’s unhealthy gums or inflamed tissue, eroding tooth enamel, decayed and infected teeth, all have potentially harmful health effects.” In fact, poor oral health has been linked to heart disease, cancer, and diabetes, among others. Even tooth loss can directly impact a patient’s overall appearance, which can lead to a decline in self-esteem and increased anxiety and depression.

“It’s really about being committed to investing in your overall health,” he urges. “I’m confident that Beaufort Center for Dentistry can partner with you on your health and wellness journey. We would love to see you!”
