MEET THE FUTURE DR. SMITH:
An Audiology Extern Dedicated to Reconnecting Lives Through Better Hearing
The Beaufort Sound, Hearing and Balance Center is proud to welcome Danielle Smith, a fourth-year Doctor of Audiology student from Purdue University, to the clinic as part of her year-long audiology externship. Danielle brings both strong clinical knowledge and a personal passion for helping people with hearing loss rediscover the joy of connection.
Danielle earned her Bachelor of Science degree and is currently completing her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) at Purdue University. Throughout her academic career, she has been thoroughly trained in diagnosing and treating ear and hearing disorders, with a special interest in aural rehabilitation—helping patients adjust to and thrive with hearing aids and other assistive devices.
Her passion for audiology began at home. Watching her grandmother’s life change for the better after being properly fit with hearing aids left a lasting impact. “Seeing how improved hearing helped my grandmother reconnect with the people she loved made me realize how powerful this work is,” Danielle shares. “It inspired me to pursue a career where I could do the same for others.”
As part of her clinical training, Danielle sought out The Beaufort Sound, Hearing and Balance Center because of its strong focus on comprehensive hearing and balance care, as well as its warm, community-oriented environment. “Coming from a small town myself, I immediately felt at home in Beaufort,” she says. “I was drawn to the clinic’s calm, compassionate atmosphere and the opportunity to learn from a practice that values both expertise and human connection.”
During her externship, Danielle will be working hands-on with patients, assisting in comprehensive hearing evaluations, as well as hearing aid fittings, programming, repairs, and patient education. She is especially excited to support patients on their journey to better hearing and improved quality of life.
Since relocating from Indiana, Danielle and her husband, Caleb, have embraced the Lowcountry lifestyle. They enjoy exploring downtown Beaufort, spending time at the beach, and taking their dog on scenic walks throughout the area. Danielle is thrilled to be part of The Beaufort Sound team and looks forward to continuing her education by serving the Beaufort community with empathy, care, and clinical excellence.
