It’s awards season for Beaufort Memorial, and the hospital held their fourth annual Bemmy Awards ceremony in downtown Beaufort last month to honor the dedicated staff and dynamic departments that go above and beyond in delivering care to the Lowcountry.
Held annually during Hospital Week, the Bemmy Awards – Beaufort Memorial’s own Emmy-style awards – feature 11 categories that honor exemplary performance by Beaufort Memorial staff members over the previous year.
“We have a lot of really great things going on right now at Beaufort Memorial. We have a lot to celebrate in terms of what we’re doing to expand access to care and are inviting lots of new people into our organization,” said Beaufort Memorial President and CEO Russell Baxley, kicking off the glamorous evening. “Our organization is about people. It’s not bricks and mortar, it’s not about new buildings. It’s about the people providing the great care to this community, to our patients.”
Those honored with a Bemmy were chosen from among 135 total nominations made by Beaufort Memorial staff members eager to recognize their colleagues, as well as the winners of the organization’s monthly “You Shine Through” awards selected from nominations by patients, their families, and coworkers.
Beaufort Memorial’s Employee Engagement Committee selects finalists for the Bemmy Awards, then submits its top candidates to the hospital’s senior leadership team, which then selects the winners.
“You are what makes Beaufort Memorial great, and you are what makes tonight so special,” Baxley said, emphasizing the hospital’s core values of safety, compassion, and innovation – three pillars reflected in all the Bemmy award nominees and winners. “There were a lot of nominations, there is a lot of hard work, and a lot of great care being provided at Beaufort Memorial.”
